If I were in the market for a pro-level DSLR, and was not already so heavily invested in Canon, I would take a serious look at this camera. I have seen some product from this model recently and the results have been SUPERB! This camera could give the Canon 1D III a good run for the money -- at a much lower price point!

A father's last moment with his little girl...

Yesterday I was in Dorset, VT shooting an antique festival. While there I saw signs that there was a wedding in town so I decided to stick around and see if I could get a few good candid shots. In the past I have found that I can really get some great facial expression shots by standing far back and using a telephoto zoom. When I shoot a wedding on a contract I do all of the formal shots that most people want... but my favorite shots, and the bride and groom's too, are the informal candids that capture the true emotion of the day.

So... There I was taking some photos from the edge of the church property. I was leaning against a tree away from everyone dressed in my casual clothes, just shooting pictures for myself. I was there before most of the wedding guests arrived and got some good shots of people hugging and talking. I got this great shot of the minister standing near his Harley...
How cool is that... an Episcopal minister that rides a Harley!!!

Cabinet Work

Although I am a full-time professional photographer, I still do some cabinet work and truly enjoy getting to spend some time in the wood shop. Today my friend Bruce and I spent all day in the shop getting the final assembly done on this cabinet for my brother, Robert. I could not have gotten this cabinet done without the help of Bruce and Hank --- thanks to you both!!!

We finished installing the drawer slides and figuring out these 170 degree hinges.

I have not posted anything in a couple of weeks. I have been so busy. At the beginning of this week just ending I attended the annual convention of the Vermont Professional Photographers... It was GREAT! They had some awesome speakers. I learned a lot, had fun and met some great photographers. If you live in or work in Vermont I highly recommend joining VPP (www.vtprophoto.org).

Also, although I am doing the photography full-time now, I am still running my property management business... i.e. doing lawns two days a week and last week was spring clean ups... So I was busy and tired!

I got a new camera and here are some photos I took while visiting my neighbor who builds the most incredible hot rods.

Mercedes Benz Bluetec Event

Last summer Mercedes Benz came to Manchester, VT, to unveil their new Bluetec line. The fine German engineers designed these beautiful display units for a series of diesel MBs... and the German carpenters did a very fine job of building the display units... BUT, no one thought of how they were going to get the cars ONTO the display units. Mercedes Benz hired me as an expiditor to get the cars on the display units.

There are many factors that effect one's photographic ability... a steady hand is one such factor. This shot of the setting moon was taken at 5 AM this morning from my front deck. It was shot, hand held (no image stabilization, no tripod) at 1/6 of a second at f2.8.
